Steve’s 1986 penned “The Bikers Anthem” is included on the new “Goin’ Back Home’ CD compilation, released by Quickstar Productions. There’s a looonnnnnngggg story about this song, best told with an icy cold beer. This is the first time that all 4 verses have been presented in recorded form to the public. Included is the infamous and fun “riceburner” verse, the original verse that was left off of the version on the 1st release on 45 rpm vinyl record, and replaced with a more politically correct verse at the request of the motor company’s executives. The complete version of “The Bikers Anthem” is a guitar, banjo, and fiddle based production, with Steve playing his Martin D-28 and Deanie Richardson on fiddle, and with Rick Otts on banjo. The tune was recorded at Rick’s studio in Hendersonville, TN.

There are 24 Bluegrass artists on the CD with songs varied from novelty, sing along, fine instrumentals, and, of course, story songs.

The CD is available at www.quickstarproductions.comевтини мебели and the major music and download sites. Steve has a few copies to sell for $10, plus $3 shipping.

Hi from Nashville,

You may not know that some of my favorite shows are house concerts. Up close, living room performances in the homes of people who enjoy live music without all the typical distractions. What you might not know is that these events are popping up all over the world.

The pool parties and back yard pickin’ shows I’ve done over the years are great, but house concerts are more intimate and really showcase what I can do. For my concerts, I do a mix of mostly originals with some of my most favorite songs done “my way”.

I’m a serious performer who likes to showcase my songs up close and personal, and the house concert is very satisfying for me and the audience. For those who care about such things, it’s an opportunity to hear my amazing Martin guitar up close.

If you’re interested in house concerts, and would like to see one before trying it, there’s a great site where you can find house concert listings in your state/province, and email the hosts for an invitation. These are generally super-friendly people who love to see a few new faces at their events. I really hope you’ll visit the site and attend a show… these events are usually fantastic, and very inspiring. If you have questions… let me know! I would LOVE to play for you and your friends.

BLACKHAWK TO HEADLINE CHARITY EVENT

FOR THE LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (December 2, 2008)—In the spirit of the season, the hit-making country music group, BlackHawk, will gather with friends in music to host a very special charity event for the benefit of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on Thursday evening, December 11, 2008. This intimate musical event will be held at the French Quarter Café (823 Woodland St., Nashville, TN). The concert will begin at 6PM with acoustic performances from DJ Gleason, Jason Kuhn, Melissa Javors and Steve Stern (all of whom are affiliated with Sharp Objects Music Publishing), followed by Alyssa Danley who will make a special guest appearance.

“This show is for cancer research, and it falls under many names: melanoma, lymphoma, leukemia and more. Whatever the illness is called, it all stacks up in the same awful category–CANCER. Having personally and professionally felt the impact of the disease, it’s important for me to be involved and if I can get the band together, and we can commit to playing for the cause, then we’re gonna play…and we’re gonna spread the love around.” –Henry Paul/Blackhawk (In 2000, band member Van Stephenson departed the group due to complications from melanoma; he tragically lost his battle with the disease and passed away in April 2001.)

BlackHawk (founded in 1992 by Henry Paul, Van Stephenson and Dave Robbins) enjoyed immediate success with their self-titled debut album in 1994, BLACKHAWK (certified multi-Platinum), and their follow-up CD, entitled STRONG ENOUGH, which was released in 1995 and achieved Gold status. The band’s hit singles include “Goodbye Says It All,” “Every Once in a While,” “I Sure Can Smell the Rain” and “I’m Not Strong Enough to Say No.” Their newest CD release (GREATEST HITS LIVE/Airline Records) is available in stores now.

Alyssa Danley, who will also take the stage that evening, is a singer/songwriter from California who is creating a buzz all over the country with her fresh sound and genuine lyrics.

The show is open to the public and in lieu of a cover charge, a $10 donation is suggested at the door to support the effort. A silent auction will also be held featuring an autographed guitar from BlackHawk among other artist memorabilia.

To make additional donations to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, please visit www.lls.org/donate.

For more information in regard to the charity concert, contact Sharp Objects at 615.320.1030.

Worth The Wait (MP3 - 4.2MB)

My neice, Amy Meredith, married Jessie Phillips in Cleveland at the end of November. It was a beautiful wedding and reception.
Amy’s Mom, Beth, and her sister Susan, my beloved spousal unit, asked me to write a song for the couple, telling their story and celebrating their marriage. I got input from family members and tried for many months to write “the song” for Amy and Jesse. About 3 weeks before the wedding, early Sunday morning, the song showed up on my doorstep. The love of the family, I believe, channeled through me, and “Worth The Wait” was written in about 30 minutes. I worked with my friend Rick Otts to produce this 4:20 wedding song version. One of Nashville’s up-and-coming future stars, Casey Thompson, sang this duet with me and absolutely knocked it out of the park.
The MP3 may be downloaded for free.
Best wishes for Amy & Jesse, for happiness, health, and more Phillips’es
