IBMA Week In Nashville

IBMA LogoI really enjoyed the IBMA conclave here in Nashville.  There were lots of good people all trying to contribute, each in their own way, to the Bluegrass Music Industry.  I felt right at home and in touch with the most influential and sincere group of artists, musicians, and professionals who keep the grassroots music alive.

There were many great showcases.  The variety and excellence evident in Bluegrass Music is amazing and encouraging.  The musicianship is at such a high level, complementing the vocals, especially the great harmonies.  It’s hard to believe that our music is not more mainstream and more appreciated.  But, we know what we’re doing and we know how to do it right, and our potential is great for reaching out to all music lovers.

I enjoyed meeting Lora Booher and hearing The Boohers.  The family band is super strong, energetic, and ready for really big things.

I enjoyed meeting Marty Raybon.  He is a real gentleman and truly one of our country’s great talents.

The Thursday night Awards show was awesome.  I was most impressed by the talent:  Ricky Scaggs & KY Thunder with the Nashville Strings, The Grascals, Cherryholmes, Del McCoury Band, Blue Highway, the 2005 Musicians of the Year playing together, Rhonda Vincent and The Rage, Marty Stuart and Curley Seckler, The Lewis Family, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Claire Lynch, Larry Sparks and Vince Gill.  Those are the performers I remember and they were all great!

I talked to several people about performing at festivals in TN, KY, WV, and IN.  I hope that some of these events include The New Anthem Band for 2007.

There’s a lot of other business stuff that may work out, but I’ll wait to tell you about that when it happens.  I don’t want to put the cart before the horse :)

Thanks to those of you who are listening to my new album.  It will be officially released in early 2007 and will be aimed at the Bluegrass (of course) and Americana listeners.  I’m very excited about the next phase of my career and life, and I hope to take you with me on that wild ride :)
